HURRICANE SEASON
Serving Our Houseless Friends in Waimanalo In An Emergency
The Impact Ministry Team (First Prez’s outreach mission) has organized a hurricane response team that is working to get us ready to assist the community living on the beach in Waimanalo. We have purchased 3-day emergency supply kits that evacuees can take with them to a shelter. We are looking for a team of 15-20 people who will be willing to help our friends pack up their belongings 48 hours before the arrival of a storm and transport their belongs to a secure location. Ensuring that their belongings will be secure will free our friends to evacuate the beach and ride out the storm in a Red Cross approved shelter.
FEED THE HUNGRY
Two of the ways we are seeking to help address the food insecurity on Oʻahu is through The Pantry and the Hawaii Food Bank (please see link below).
The Pantry
There continues to be a growing number of Hawaii’s working people who struggle with food insecurity, including children, our kupuna and those who are disabled. All too often, people are forced to choose between providing food for themselves and their families and paying other important bills. In partnership with the Hawaii Food Bank and other organizations, The Pantry offers people the opportunity to order groceries using their smartphone or computer. Those who do not have access to these devices can call and speak to a volunteer who will take their order. Volunteers fill the orders and guests come to the Kalihi warehouse to pick up their groceries on designated days. Jennine Sullivan and her team are committed to providing a safe environment for all who serve. She is committed to having volunteers practice social distancing, hand washing and other practices that will prevent the spread of COVID-19. They need lots of volunteers. There is an opportunity to provide administrative support from home. Check out their website to learn more: https://thepantry.org.
